Lancia Aurelia and Florida models, stars of SpaItalia 2020!

If on the one hand the 2020 edition of SpaItalia, to be held on Sunday 20th September, will be giving the 110th anniversary of Alfa Romeo pride of place, other themes related to the rich history of the Italian automobile will be taken up. As such an exhibition based on the legendary Lancia Aurelia will feature on the event’s programme by the hand of DG Sport…

Lancia’s Aurelia is most probably one of the most symbolic cars of the ‘50s. As from the moment it was launched…70 years ago, this top of the range model designed by Gianni Lancia and Vittorio Jano stood out thanks its superb line, whilst under the bonnet it boasted a 1755cc V6 engine, in fact the first series V6 … in the world! If the Aurelia owes its name to the Via Aurelia, meandering between Rome and the French Riviera, its performance and comfort made it an assertive competitor at that time. Its record of achievements in competition speak for themselves, with as highlight a D50 version claiming the Formula 1 World Championship in 1956 with none other than Juan Manuel Fangio at the wheel!

“Lovers of this beautiful Italian machine will be delighted, with already the confirmed presence of the Aurelia B12, B20 and B24 (Spider) models, Florian Jupsin, in the name of DG Sport, commented. And as cherry on the cake, a Lancia Florida, a stylistic study based on the Aurelia and developed by Pininfarina, will also join the festivities. The Florida is considered to be a masterpiece of automotive design. It notably served as the basis in the development of the future Lancia Flaminia models in their saloon and coupe versions. Francesco de Virgilio is the brain behind the V6 engine. There have in fact been 6 Florida prototypes, all different. Three remain, namely one in Switzerland, one in the South of France and… the third at SpaItalia! The tone is set … “

As you will have noted, more than ever the SpaItalia 2020 meeting will focus on exclusivity. Other surprises are to be expected in the coming weeks …
