True to tradition an exceptional model takes pride of place at SpaItalia. Scheduled to be held on the 26th and 27th September, the 2015 edition will be celebrating the fortieth anniversary of the Ferrari 308 and 328.
Flashback to 1975: at the Paris car show the renowned Maranello constructor officially presents a GT (2 seater) christened 308: "30" in reference to the 3.0l engine and "8" for the 8 cylinders in V developing 255 bhp. Joining the Dino 308 GT4 in the catalogue, which had been available since two years, the new 308 GTB claims all the votes and its success is confirmed with the launch of the open top version, the GTS. The latter will experience worldwide renown thanks to the television series Magnum whose hero, Tom Selleck, only travels in a soft-top Ferrari!
Weighing in at just under 1100 kg on the scales, the 308 oozes elegance, class and ‘hair raising’ performance: a top speed in excess of 250 km/h, 14’’1 for the 400 metres, less than 26’’ to cover 1000 meters.
Over the years the model underwent various evolutions. A 2.0l version – named the 208 – is produced for the Italian market, soon followed by a 2.0l Turbo variant. Indirect fuel injection and an electronic ignition also appear on the models earmarked for the United States, and numerous options allow prospective owners to personalise “their” car. A “Quattrovalvole” cylinder head puts in an appearance in 1982 and three years later, the 328 – whose 3.2l develops 270 bhp – replaces the 308.
Unlike the majority of GT machines produced at Maranello, this model can be entered for competition. It is in fact in… rally and not on the track that it produces its best performances, notably in the hands of the Frenchman Jean-Claude Andruet and the Swede Bjorn Waldegard.
Forming a major chapter in the history of the “Cavallino Rampante”, both the 308 and the 328 will be Top of the Bill at SpaItalia 2015. Numerous models will be on show in the paddock, a special prize will be awarded to the most gorgeous 308 and 328 during the concourse of elegance and there will be a special parking exclusively reserved for the numerous owners of these models whom we expect to welcome at Spa-Francorchamps, on the 26th and 27th September.
